Past
It is said that Aryeh was the first vampire, and since he doesn't ever remember being human it could be true. Through, it is possible that even older vampires exist in the world and that one of them changed him. After all, it is theorized that if a vampire exist for long enough that he will eventually forget his human life. Aryeh has no idea the truth behind this theory. The oldest vampire he have ever met wasn't even half his age, and she had memories of her human life--even if she described her connection to it as nothing more than simply reading a novel or watching a movie.
It is possible she haven't existed long enough to forget her human life, but it just as likely that the theory is false and Aryeh doesn't remember being human because he was never human. The first thing he remembers is waking up within the snow with a hunger burning inside of him. He had literally thought that flames were consuming him from the inside out, and was going to burst forth from his skin at any moment. He struggled to his feet--dazed and confused--and made his way across the frozen landscape.
He wandered dazed and confused for who knows how long when he was eventually found by a group of nomadic human. They took him in, and immediately he knew how to quench the growing fire inside of him. He could smell it radiating off of them, see it pulsing beneath their skin. It was their blood, and he didn't think twice about giving his hunger what he wanted. He fed from them, consumed every last drop of blood from every member of this group and quickly realized that this was a mistake. He had satisfied his hunger for the moment, but he knew the fire would eventually return.
It did just that, but he knew what he wanted---what he needed--and he moved out to seek it. Once again, he wandered for who knows how long until he found his prey, but this time he didn't kill them all. In fact, he didn't kill any--much to the annoyance of his hunger. He fed from them, taking just enough so the fire stopped threatening to consume him. He didn't know how long it would be before he found a new food source if he did kill them. There was no human civilizations during this time. It was the period of human history where man gathered around fires that was suppose to keep the monsters that went bump in the night away.
It eventually became clear that Aryeh had to leave this group of humans. It wasn't because of the marks upon their necks. They seem oblivious to them. No, it was because they begun to notice he didn't age. He left before they could give those suspicions a voice. He found another group, and repeated the process. He lived this way until these nomadic tribes gave way to human civilizations. He no longer had to wander across the land with his food, waiting for the moment they begin to suspect he isn't like them. He could settle within a human settlement, and hide his presence from them until he wanted to fed. He could even kill his food without worrying about how long it will be before he found another human settlement.
He knew where other settlements were located. Not that he allowed himself to give into this urges often. It was just nice knowing that he could surrender to them every once in awhile, if he wished. Many years passed before he encountered others of his kind. They had formed a coven of sorts, and claimed that all vampires are bound by its laws, or rather universal laws for all their kind. They claimed that all vampires must swear alliance to a coven, and when he enters a new city that he must present himself to the coven leader of that city. Aryeh thought the entire thing was complete hogwash. He wasn't about to allow himself to be bound in the manner they described. A fact he made clear, and they responded by trying to kill him.
Their attempts proved fruitless, and they eventually stopped trying. It was here where the stories about him being the first of his kind started. While he cannot argue the notion he does wonder when he had actually changed other vampires, because doesn't being the first of something mean that you eventually make others into what you are? And if he did make other vampires wouldn't he remember? He remembers everything else that happened during the time since he first woke up in the snow with the hunger burning inside of him. This is why he believes that even if no other vampires had changed him that other vampires came into being at that time, and they made others.
He changed his first mortal into a vampire soon after this, and another one soon after that. Anyone with a certain spark that he didn't wish to be extinguish he changed. There are some things he believed that should be immortalized. He wasn't the greatest maker. Many vampires stay near their fledglings--helping them understand what it means to be what they are and teaching them the ropes. Aryeh abandoned his fledgling, leaving them to figure out what it means to be a vampire on their own, but he would came to their rescue if they needed it--especially if they were in that fledgling stage. The years drifted past until he eventually found himself in the new world--New Orleans to be exact.

Present
They say that if you walk the streets of New Orleans late at night that a man will approach you upon the streets, and ask if you have a light. If you provide him with one he will leave you to go about your merrily business, but if you do not he will reveal himself for what he is and drink your blood. He finds this story to be quite silly. While he has asked humans he had stumble upon while wandering the streets late at night if they had a smoke he doesn't base his decision on whether or not he is going to drink their blood on their answer. He is just as likely to drink the blood from the humans that said no as the ones that said yes.
